This is a painting of a photo of me and several kids from my neighborhood taken by my late grandfather, named after the date stamped on the bottom, 8 10 ‘01. It was a rainy night at some sort of block party and we were catching raindrops in our mouths (or trying to, at least— I, second from left, seem to be wiping them out of my eyes). I just thought it was such an interesting photo, taken in the final days of the Post-Cold War optimism that defined my early childhood.
